In its Konvergencie LIVE edition, Konvergencie is devoted to works from festival performances which, thanks to the combination of performance qualities, repertoire specifics and sound recording processing, promote not only interesting works but also represent Slovak performing arts. The piano virtuoso, conductor and composer Ern\u0151 Dohn\u00e1nyi<\/strong> (27 July 1877, Bratislava – 9 February 1960, New York) is one of the most important and interesting personalities in the history of musical culture whose fate is linked to today’s Bratislava. This musician is connected with Bart\u00f3k and Alexander Albrecht Dohn\u00e1nyi not only through his studies at the Royal Hungarian Catholic Grammar School in Bratislava, but also at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, which he later headed as director. Dohn\u00e1nyi’s work, which combines the musical traditions of late Romanticism with modernism and the occasional ‚Hungarian colour‘, is still rarely performed in Slovakia, even more rarely recorded and generally little known. The Konvergencie Festival has so far presented three major chamber opuses by the composer: the rare Sextet, Op. 37 for clarinet, French horn, violin, viola, cello and piano (1935) and both Piano Quintets in C minor, Op. 1 (1895) and E flat minor, Op. 26 (1914). On this album we bring you the Sextet in C major, Op. 37 from 2010, performed by an international ensemble of exceptional performers: R. \u0160ebesta – clarinet, M. Nov\u00e1k – French horn, I. Kar\u0161ko – violin, V. Mendelssohn – viola, J. Lupt\u00e1k – cello and M. Skuta – piano. The album’s dramaturgy is completed by Serenade in C major for string trio, Op. 10 (Igor Kar\u0161ko – violin, Simon Tandree – viola, Jozef Lupt\u00e1k – cello).<\/p>\n
