About Marek Brezovský
Marek Brezovský (April 15, 1974, Bratislava – June 22, 1994, Bratislava) was a Slovak composer, pianist, singer and lyricist. He was one of the most remarkable talents on the domestic music scene of the 1980s and 1990s. He began studying piano at the age of five and later graduated from the Bratislava Conservatory with degrees in composition and piano. From 1993 he continued his studies in composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava under Vladimír Bokes. While studying at the conservatory, he founded the Contemporary Music Ensemble, for which he composed and served as a pianist, and the prog-rock group Art M Trio. He died at the age of twenty—yet he left behind an extensive musical legacy encompassing classical music, art rock, and songwriting.
During his lifetime Brezovský did not release any solo albums. His music began to spread among listeners only after his death, largely thanks to his father, Ali Brezovský, and his close friend Oskar Rózsa. The album Hrana was released in 1999 and the album Komorná hudba in 2004. In 2014, director Patrik Lančarič filmed the documentary Hrana: 4 Films About Marek Brezovský. His father is composer Ali Brezovský, his mother is lyricist Vlasta Brezovská and his sister is singer, lyricist and translator Mirka Brezovská.
